Where to buy localy made cheeses...
I'm looking for a place to purchase cheese made in New England...preferably organic or from grass feed cows. I've bought some at local farmers markets but have had trouble finding other reliable sources. Is there a good place to buy local cheese that won't break the bank? Thanks.

If you are looking for something specific, several of the wholesale distributors list their product line on the web. Most of them do not do cash and carry, nor would you necessarily want the quantity they offer, but email and they usually are willing to direct you to someone who stocks their products. Sheila Marie Imports would be my first suggestion, followed by Sid Wainer, and then perhaps Paul W Marks (more oriented toward nationally available options, although they did used to allow cash and carry on Fridays).
Fresh Cheese is also associated with Purity Cheese in Quincy, so while its not exactly what you are looking for, they are a good source for some italian cheeses. In particular they offer basket (fresh) cheese year round (although there is a cheese maker in RI that I actually prefer) as well as a scarmorza. There also used to be another Italian cheese maker in Medford, Guiseppe, and Gigi's in Everett, but I think the former closed and I think the latter is still in operation but not certain.
