L&L

I wish someone would open a L&L here. If there's one near you.... you're lucky. I love the mini mahi mahi plate. My brother the tonkatsu ....... yummy. My favorite fast food without a doubt.
I don't really do fast food if it can be helped but this .......

I like the khalua pork (sp?) and the fries best. Not together though.

We enjoy going to L&L---tasty, good portion sizes, and reasonable prices. Went to Hawaii recentlyy and had some wonderful Lomi Lomi pork at the L&L there.

lomi lomi pork? maybe lau lau pork or lomi salmon, but i think lomi lomi pork would get you raw, salted, massaged pork

I have had a couple of meals in their Las Vegas operation. I thought the food was pretty good for what you paid. Do realize that Hawaiian cuisine with the entree, scoops of rice and scoops of macaroni salad is not exactly a cuisine that appeals to me on a frequent basis. The high point was definitely the meat which was tasty and well prepared.

I have been to a couple of independent Hawaiian restaurants in OR and CA and teh fiid at L&L was comparable.

Am I crazy or does their macaroni salad have fish in it?

I really like L&L as well. great price, fast, many options and the mini plate is great for people who don't want a gastric bypass surgery later in life. My local one tries to keep me from ordering what i want though. I'll order something that's more for native tastes and they'll try to push me to the BBQ plate... but i always stand firm. For a chain, I think they're right on. It's silly to talk about how a restaurant isn't the same as the food your father the hawaiian chef makes.

It's silly? Ok, I'll explain it this way:

                It doesn't taste good.

My father's no chef, simply someone who has loved cooking his whole life. There are tons of foods that he makes that I'd rather have somewhere else. It just so happens that L & L doesn't fall into that category. But I think labeling someone's personal tastes silly happens to be, well, silly.

yeah, you're right. poor tact. I'd erase that if I could. coming from someone with no other hawaiian options, it's a good choice (to me) considering the alternatives.

I like the BBQ Mix Plate, the Fried Saimin plate, and the Spam Musubi there. Mmm Spam...

Speaking of spam musubi...I was at a race track in Las Vegas eating some musubi and this guy offers me 5 bucks for one. Seems his wife was Hawaiian and hadn't had one in years. I sold it to him and bought some nachos, but seriously...how hard is it to make some musubi?

yeah but when you can't get a plate lunch and your inbetween island visits - its a food memory - of course it can't compare to the real thing or even to the corner stores plate lunch . I think its cool to see Hawaiian fast food branching out. They have almost 70 locations now.
I love plate lunch and kalua pork and lau lau, poi , POKE yummy, you are so lucky

If push comes to shove, and I just need some down home Hawaiian food, I always go to my staple: loco moco. The only tough part is the gravy...so I usually skip it.

Not a fan. I'm spoiled by the fact that most of my dad's family still lives in Hawaii so we get the free room/board and recommendations to eat when we're there. Add to that the fact that my dad

                    a) grew up in a restaurant
                    b) is our primary cook and
                    c) is retired, thus having nothing to do but cook

and the food at L&L just doesn't compare. My family eats Hawaiian and related food so often, that I prefer to stay away. Sometimes being spoiled is a good thing.
