re: nkmontero
oh, give it a shot, it's very cheap and mellow...more specifically:
-- it's a francophile cafe: there are some tasty bistro dishes and daily specials...and some random American comfort dishes like a banana&peanut0butter sandwich...
-- it's owned by Lucien (of Lucien Bistro on First/First)...Lucien is pricier, more French and generally better overall but Lucien is a restaurant and Pink Pony is more of a place where you can hang out over wine and coffee and has an old-school LES feel...but Pink Pony is not run as well as Lucien and can have some terrible posuery lapses in service and food quality...Pink Pony is also partly run by Lucien's wife, who is something of an terror and i think that is one of the reasons for the inconsistency of the place...

re: Simon
I agree. I went last night with a group of seven. We had a reservation, but there were still tables available on a Saturday night. I'd pop in if I was in the neighborhood, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Decor is kitschy and the waitresses all have that LES funky style going on. Our waitress spilled wine on the table (at least they were paper tablecloths) every chance she had to pour! She was not particularly attentive, and service was quite slow.
I had the cassoulet, which was decent. More like a stew than a chicken pot pie, it had sausage (not made with pork), lamb, and white beans with a duck confit. It was served in a ceramic pot with some greens dressed in balsamic on the side. I think it cost around $16. Our group split 2 bottles of wine and plus gratuity I paid about $30 total for dinner.

Pink Pony is in the LES where i live. Have been there several times. It's french bistro and american food i would say. Pretty good but not spectacular. Comfort food. Excellent Tuna Nicoise and they have pretty good comfort sandwiches like tuna melts. Not sure what specifically you want to know about it. If you can narrow down your question, I might be able to help.
