Best mail order spices? [moved from Home Cooking]

Is there really much difference in the "big name" spice places as to the quality of the spices/herbs? I generally order from Penzeys, but there is SpiceHouse and SpiceBarn as well. Other than the proprietary blends, any reason to go with one over the other?

  1. Bryan, I go with, you might check it out but will probably find that it's similar to those you mentioned. I'm not sure about the quality vs the big name places, but at least you have an option on how you treat the product after you order them. You can keep them as intact as you like.

      1. Try Penzey's mail order. Excellent quality and a large selection of great fresh spices & herbs. probably they will send a free catalog with good recipes.
