Do you mean a place like Agata & Valentina although I don't think I'd describe the restaurant as awesome.

sort of like agata and valentina but more like marlowe and sons in brooklyn. i really like the idea of either spaces with grocery stores that you have to walk through to get to the main restaurant or really nice grocery stores with all kinds of products for sale that you sit down and eat-in

le halles-french butcher with boudin, french cuts of bacon etc.

How about Fairway Market on the upper west side which has a steakhouse on the 2nd floor.

Bouley and Upstairs at Bouley have Bouley Market and Bakery right next to them. Bouley Market and will give you fastantic bread and pastries, plus prepared and cooked food (mostly simple dishes like sandwiches and salads). They all taste great!

I like Despana as well, but it is more of a small dining area attached to the grocery store, rather than a grocery store attached to a restaurant.

How about a food store with an awesome cafe? Kalyustan's (the spice store) on Lexington serves excellent middle eastern upstairs.

How about the places in the Eli's group? Eli's, the food market, has a cafe + its full-service restaurant, Taste, is right next door. The Vinegar Factory serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I've never eaten at these places, but my daughter and her boyfriend love going for that weekend brunch.
