cooking ribs in a crockpot - want not too sweet sauce

All the recipes I can find for ribs in a crockpot call for a ton of sugar which I don't like. Any good ideas for a more savory marinade? It can have some sweeterner just not 2 cups of ketchup or molasses! Also, has anyone cooked ribs like this before? tips?

Rub your ribs with salt, pepper, thyme and paprika. Place one thinly sliced onion in crock pot. Add ribs. Mix a 50/50 mixture of BBQ sauce and hoisin sauce and slather over ribs. Crock 'til they're done.

I fix ribs in the crock pot. Super easy throw in with some V8 juice and a jar of salsa. Doesn't have to be really spicey unless that's how you like it.

here's what I do & they're great. sometimes I use chili sauce too, & cut back on the ketchup/bbq. but this might still have too much sweetener for you, not sure. Also, the added hot sauce type & amount takes away from the sweet taste for us- I use good hot sauces.

        1 c ketchup
        2 c bbq sauce
        ½ c brown sugar
        4 T apple cider vinegar
        2 tsp oregano
        2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
        Dry mustard- few dashes
        Hot sauce- to liking
