I'm decorating for Persian New Year and I need some sumac and senjed (the dried fruit of the oleaster tree) ?

I tried Zand on Solano, but they won't have senjed (they do have sumac) until next Thursday? Where can I get some a little sooner, ideally in the Rockridge/Temescal/Elmwood neighborhoods?

You can find them at 99 Ranch or any good Chinese grocer. They call them dried red dates or jujubes.

I stopped by Saffron Gourmet today and they have both. They are closed tommorrow and they close at 5 today ... so too late unless you live next door.

Gosh, this is a wonderful store. Will report about the deilciousness there soon. Really a good addition to the neighborhood ... never mind the neigborhood ... nice addtition to the East Bay period.

Yeah, I went there late this morning. I spoke some Farsi with the owner and he ended up giving me some free Persian tea. I bought sumac, senjed and some homemade torshi (Persian salsa/chutney). I'll report on the torshi later.

Thanks again for the find!

Great. Here's a link to a report on my visits this weekend ... I really wanted those poached pears, but they were sold out.

What little I tried seemed very tasty, but I don't have lots of experience with Persian food.
