Great Mexican restaurant in NW burbs

  • 6

It seems as if every weekend my husband drags the whole family all over on his personal quest to find the best mexican restaurant in nw suburbs.. The kids have actually stopped coming with us because they know what is in store. Could you guys give me some suggestions so I start to enjoy Mexican again?

Thanks

  1. Fuego in Arlington Heights recently got a good review from Ch 7's "Hungry Hound." We haven't tried it yet but it's on our list.

If you're willing to make a little drive to Edison Park, Don Juan's is excellent - - great menu w/a lot of choice. Very family oriented and nice staff.

    1. La Rosita 131 N. Main St., Crystal Lake; 815-356-7705 was named one of the top 5 in all chicagoland, and with Really good reason!!! It's in a grocery store, and nothing fancy! Very, very wonderful!! La Chicanita, in Arlington Heights has the other best tacos I have ever eaten!! 200 N. Dunton Arlington Heights 847-255-7075

      1. You need look no farther than Fuego. If I have one gripe, it's that it gets somewhat loud. I've heard they don't take reservations but that policy may have changed.

Fuego's menu is less creative than the Bayless places but it's the only restaurant I'd mention in the same breath as Frontera/Topo.

Another place that I've had some ups and downs at is El Meson in Schaumburg....right off the intersection of Roselle and Schaumburg Roads.

El Meson used to be our go-to place because it's so close. We found way more downs than ups and stopped going there years ago. Horrible service, messed up orders, cold food, etc. Would definitely try one of the other suggestions before El Meson.

The more I think about it, the more I am going to have retract my El Meson suggestion.

When I think of that place I tend to think of the times I went there with my family but that was years ago...the last two times I went there the food seemed mediocre--not nearly as good as I remembered--and service was terrible, on a slow Thursday late afternoon nonetheless.

        2. Based on this thread I ate at La Rosita this morning and found it quite disapointing! The al pastor tacos were nothing special and were loaded with some type of grated heavy cheese which I didn't care for at all. The hot souce was not hot and the place was filthy. At 11am none of the tables had been cleaned. Really nasty. And they wern't exactly friendly to me either.

I much prefer Tacos El Norte in Lake Zurich!
