Where can I get Sam Adams cream stout in the DC area?
I've heard good things about Sam Adams cream stout, so I decided to look for it this week. I tried four places in the Sterling/Ashburn, Virginia area. Do any DC natives know where I can get some in the DC / Northern Virginia area? Also, is it that good? I wasn't impressed with the Lancaster and Mackeson's milk/cream stouts, but I thought this might be a better alternative. I heard that The Old Brogue in Great Falls has Bell's double cream stout on tap, so I might have to check that out.

if you know someone in the military maybe you can ask them to purchase it for you at the class six at Andrews Air Force Base. that's where I bought some. it reminds me of guiness stout. i didn't really like it.

Hey, Thanks for the tip. My dad is retired army reserve, so he can hit the class 6 Do you think they would have it at the Fort Belvoir class 6? That's where my parents usually go. I'll ask him to look for it. If he can't find it, I might have to join the reserves to get a steady supply of cream stout.
If it's like Guinness stout, I won't have any complaints. Guinness may not be the best stout, but it is still good. I'm not as high on the canned Guinness, but I had a couple of Guinness drafts last week that were outstanding.

Boston Beer (Sam Adams) contract brews most of the Mackeson Stout sold in the US (one occassionally sees 22 oz. bottles from The Lion), tho' I've never done a side-by-side to see how they compare.
I was extremely disappointed with the first bottles of the US version when they came out- guessing it around 5 or 6 years ago. Before that, Snyder (which owned the Cinci brewery before Sam Adams bought it) imported an "export" version of Mackeson XXX Stout, which is higher in alcohol than the original UK version (now extinct, IIRC). Yet, I still see the US version getting high ratings so I've been contemplating trying it again (tho' the place I see carrying it don't seem to sell much of it and I'm usually a freshness nut).
I've liked some bottles of Hitachino Nest Sweet Stout I've had, and other bottles I've found very disappointing (thin, watery, not very sweet). Don't know if they're just inconsistent or suffered from age or poor handling.
