August or Commander's Palace for weekeday lunch?

I'm trying to decide between these two places. I have never been to either. If you were me, would you pick one of these places over the other, or just go to both of them during a week's stay?

  1. I have read elsewhere about wonderful lunch specials at both restaurants (inexpensive martinis and prix fix 3-course options). Is there anyone out there who experienced these options at either or both places who could give a description or somehow point me in the right direction?

    1. I did not know that August was open for lunch. Is that a definite? Thanks for letting me know as I may give it a try next week.

      1. Restaurant August has always had a great lunch, post Katrina they may not be open everyday of the week, so call to be sure.

        1. re: Tonto

August only does lunch on Fridays.

        2. Can't answer your question, but I hope you'll be there over a weekend, because Sunday jazz brunch at Commander's Palace is one of the great treats in life. My wife and I make a trip to New Orleans from Dallas every few years just to do that.

          1. Hope I didn't miss you. I agree that the Sunday brunch is fantastic, but the 25 cent martinis seal the deal for Commander's Palace, once voted best restaurant in North America by the Beard Foundation.
