How should I use my large mortar and pestle?

My best friend got me a large stone mortar and pestle recently. I really love it, but I'd like to learn more ways to use it. Right now I really only use it for mashing garlic and spices. Its very heavy duty and I'm sure it could handle a lot. Does anyone have any recommendations?

  1. How large? You can make herb + salt infusions....

    1. I use mine to make guacamole and it isn't even that large.

      1. Pestos of all kinds are better from a morter and pestle than from a food processor, even if they take a little more time. Also good for smashing nuts.
