Wish List for Chowhound Controls [moved from CHOW Feedback]

I would like to see a control that will mark all threads in My Recent Posts as read. I hate having to go to a thread and then back to My Recent Posts just to get the new message notification icon to go away.

Secondly, I would like to see a control for clearing some or all of the entries in My Recent Posts. The pages get tremendously long and cumbersome. If I really want to keep up with topics for a long time, I can always add them to My Favorites.

Lastly, it would be nice to be able to clear one, some or many My Favorites instead of one at a time.

  1. I would prefer just the opposite, rather than being able to clear posts from My Recent Posts I'd like to be able to page back indefinitely.

I would like a "Display All / Only New" control to make it a better navigation tool.

    1. RL, something we actually agree on! <bg> What a useful idea.

      1. I would like to see a "mark all read" option on the individual boards. The way I navigate Chowhound is to visit four individual boards and read through the posts I'm interested in. I'd like to be able to mark the rest of the posts on that board (the one's I'm not interested in) without having to open each post individually.
Is this possible? Is it already an option and I just don't know how to find it?

It is already an option -- click the arrow next to Boards > My Unread Posts > Switch Board > name of the board you want to mark as read. There's a "Mark all Topics as Read" link at the top of that page.

Thanks, never knew that was there before.
I just wish it was easier to do, than going through all those steps. I guess I'm the odd one out because I never use the My Unread Posts section. I just automatically go to the board I want to read and scroll through. An option for Marking all Read there would be easier for me. But, I'll deal with things the way they are because probably most people use that My Unread Posts section.

A Mark All Read on the board pages would make sense, especially since the display is otherwise identical to what you see when you narrow My Unread Posts to a single board.

THANK YOU! That makes it much easier to eliminate as new the topics I don't want to read. I agree though, it would be so much more intuitive to be able to mark all topics read while you are in the board.

          2. I'd like to be able to do a search and then sort by most recent, especially when looking at a new city. It sucks to type in 'Asheville' and the top of the lists are restaurants that no longer exist.
