If it's Wednesday it must be Lengua - La Perla

Finally made it to La Perla on a Wednesday for the Tongue (Lengua) special. ChowFun and others were oh so right - this is a great dish. One of the best ever preparations of tongue ... it's braised with lots of veggies ( green beans, potatoes, bell pepper, jalapeno, tomato, carrots, etc.... ) until the tongue is very tender and savory. This lunch special available only on Wednesdays is $7.00 and is a good value. Thin, crispy chips with a fire roasted salsa (that's also firy in flavor) gets you off to a good start. The lengua plate came relatively quickly .... followed by the freshly made warm house tortillas. As advised, I asked for some salsa fresca and got a ramekin of that. Talk about being all set up .... loved the beans and the tortillas were as good as promised. The waitress was very nice - coming around to check on me several times. She brought me a take out carton without being asked. I ate about 60% of my lunch - enough leftover for a nice snack.
When I ordered my lunch I also ordered a dozen tortillas to take home..they are now $3.00.

La Perla - 222 Lux Ave South SF 650.589-8302 Ca$h only.
Lux Ave is 4 blocks North of Grand Ave.

M-F 8am - 10pm Sat/Sun 7:30am - 10pm

Actually, I went there for lengua and salsa once..(Is it traditional that wednesday is lengua day?)
It was quite good, but I don't remember homemade tortillas...definitely good, I would have it again, but La Perla is more to my liking!

if you like lengua, i highly recommend panchita's #3 on 22nd between mission and s van ness. it's not a taqueria, but a good nuevo latino joint. i haven't been in a while, so i can't comment on its recent status, but they served absolutely incredible braised lengua- best i have ever had by far.

          Me too, me too!
Do they only have it on wednesdays or all through the week?
Do they do homemade tortillas as well?
Have you tried the lengua in Salso at La Perla? Can you compare and contrast??
          Thanks...
