Bonne Maman makes great jams and their raspberry is delicious. It's widely available so you should find it at the supermarket.

Your cake sounds fabulous. If you don't mind sharing the recipe, I'd love to have it.

In a comparative tasting in the San Francisco Chronicle (by chefs) and in Cooks Illustrated...and in a private tasting here using 14 jars of jam...the winner of ALL three...was Smuckers!!! Really! It is the perfect balance of tart to sweet, a beautiful color with a great fragrance..it is now the only raspberry I buy!

Fun--never thought to do a jam tasting but I would be into it! I usually buy Bonne Maman (if I don't have some of my mom's homemade socked away somewhere), but I grew up on Smuckers. Come to think of it, my in-laws have a big jar of raspberry Smuckers that looks like it's from Costco. It's pretty good, but the consistency is a little thin for me.

Mountain Fruits in Chico, CA is by far the best (commercially available) raspberry preserves I have ever had. Profoundly tart and fresh tasting, I would never spend my own money on anything else.

I recently found a good jam at a Tuesday Morning store ... Mere Poulard Confiture ... very good ... fruity not too sugary. Another resource i use is Beth's Farm Kitchen ... I found this jam at a farmer's market in NYC and have been ordering from them for years ... here's the website: http://www.bethsfarmkitchen.com/
