whole wheat pasta

what are the best sauces?

  1. I like whole wheat pasta with olive oil, real parmesano reggiano, olives and sundried tomatoes... any oily sauce (healthy oil like olive oil) works well.. like a real marinara... whole wheat pasta doesn't work well with fat free sauces imo

    1. I think that zesty sauces are best. Whole wheat pasta is not, in my view, a good match for alfredo, carbonara, etc. The slightly nutty flavor of the pasta would compete with a delicate cream sauce, but would complement a flavorful sauce such as marinara or puttanesca. Think of it this way: A more healthful pasta generally pairs with a more healthful sauce.

      1. Agree - whole wheat pasta definitely pairs best with a tomato & olive oil based sauce. I'd add arrabiata to the marinara/puttanesca suggestions.

        1. Try whole-wheat spaghetti under Gong Bao (Kung Pao) chicken. Pure heaven. It's pretty easy to make at home, too, so it's now a staple at our house.
