Younge and Sheppard - Any recs for group lunch?

Any suggestions on where a big group (ie. 35-40) could go for an informal lunch on a Sunday in the area?

No specific cuisine is a requirement, except would like to stay away from Chinese, and a buffet would be great.

ahhh I forgot about Mezza Notte, yes that's the place if they can accommodate you! I don't like the Baton Rouge, I've been there and not been impressed, but I'm not usuallly a Baton Rouge fan...
If you want Indian, that new place, Bombay Bhel was not bad at all and not too spicy.

Milestones of course is awesome as usual. the Boston Pizza at Sheppard Centre is horrid do not even bother to waste your time.

My recommendation would be either Baton Rouge or Milestones. I've been to both locations many times. While both restaurants are primarily booths, I believe that both can manipulate their tables to create a section that can accomodate your group. The food at both places is great and pricing is reasonable.

There is also Baton Rouge right at Yonge and Sheppard. It is a very large restaurant, probably used to accomodating large groups.

Mezza Notte, an Italian restaurant just north of Empress Walk could handle 40 if you called in advance. I've been to a work Christmas party there. They might require you to choose a prix-fixe with a few main course options.

Or if you don't mind heading over a few km to Leslie, Jerusalem on Leslie between Finch & Sheppard could easily handle 40 people. It's a Middle-Eastern buffet with several Italian choices.

Another Sunday buffet that's just a short drive north of Yonge & Sheppard is the Hungarian buffet at Schnitzel House at Yonge and Steeles.

Other than The Keg, Milestone or Moxie's, there is nothing within walking distance that can accomodate 40 people. Tony's doesn't open for lunch on the weekend.

Boston Pizza is conveniently located, but as far as I concern, it is not food. You're better off eating at the food court.

Tony's isn't that bad, but I had really bad service there once. Their food is quite good usually though. Boston Pizza just moved there, but again I had really bad service there (hmmm this is sounding repetitive). Plantation there is a nice light lunch and coffee house....but not for that many people. There's a place on Willowdale called Paisano's that I hear is quite good too.

Normally, I would suggest Cuisine of India, but you'd take up the whole restaurant with a group that big.
There aren't a lot of great choices in the area.
Regarding a buffet, if you don't mind going a bit east to Bayview, you could have the salad bar (which has soup, bread, cold pasta, it's a good buffet).
The chains in the area - Milestone's or Moxie's would probably work.
Anywhere you go, I'd call ahead and warn them of the large group coming.

I left out where the salad bar is - Sierra Grill on the Bayview Village grounds - I never eat anything else there, but the salad bar is great.

                    'not a lot of choice'?????

on spring garden there are a couple of realy good korean/jap. rest.
like wings there is st. louis
baton rouge (not my favourite but others like it)
as you mentioned Cuisine of India (buffet at lunch) ok food
Chain rest (don't like them but milestone/boston pizza)
Pub food (that maybe FUN) across from the shepard centre
On willowdale and sharpard there is a good Italian rest (would not recommend Mezza Notte as i am told one person saw the chief smoking while cooking not so long ago even though it is not legal to do so)

                    and the list goes on.

Buffet the best bet is sunshine grill for thier salad bar, but i also don't eat anything else there, because it it isn't that good.

I don't think think there is a lot of "quality" choice. I stand by that. There are a lot of chains, yes. The pubs are not great around there. St. Louis' sucks in my opinion.
Also, there's not a lot of choice for a group that large - other than the chains, which I stated would do for this purpose, but I wouldn't call them quality choices.
btw, it's not called Sunshine's anymore. It's Sierra Grill.
