Good Affordable Greek Restaurant near MSG

Hello, This is my first post on chowhound, but I am sure you all can help me. I am coming down from the Boston area on March 25th to see the Elton John concert that night at the Garden. We are going to be in a group of approximately 10 people or so and we are looking for a suggestion to eat somewhere affordable but near the Garden. One idea I am thinking about is a greek restaurant, since that day is also Greek Independence day, but we are open to suggestions from other types of cuisine too. But nothing too pricey, prob no more than 30-40 pp. I thank you all in advance for your ideas and will consider all of them for our consideration, if you have any questions feel free to ask them. Thanks and have a nice day.

  1. There are no Greek restaurants in very near proximity to MSG. The closest one is Uncle Nick's, on 9th Av., b/t 50th & 51st Sts. Very good food. Efficient service. Large, taverna-style setting. Can easily accommodate a group of 10. Moderate prices.

    1. I can't think of any Greek restaurants near MSG. Uncle Nick's is a good suggestion, but you would probably need to take a taxi to MSG afterwards. You could try Ethos, which is very good and affordable, on Third Ave and 33rd street and then walk a few avenue blocks west from 3rd Ave and 33rd to 7th Ave and 33rd, MSG.

      1. Thanks for the suggestions, that Uncle Nick's sounds good, any other suggestions in that midtown/msg area that are affordable and are recommended, any other type of food ie italian or steak etc.

My favorite NYC steakhouse, Keens, is not far from the Garden. Excellent food and unmatchable old NY ambiance. Prices in the dining room are in the expensive category but are more moderate in the Pub Room.

For Italian food, I recommend Cascina, on 9th Av., b/t 45th & 46th Sts. Well-prepared, very tasty food; good service; big space with pleasant, rustic ambiance; and moderate prices. They can easily handle a group of 10.

        2. Try Molyvos.........Same owners as Oceana and Abbocotto

Molyvos, which is on 7th Av., b/t 55th & 56th Sts., is further away from the Garden. Also, the food, in my view, is just o.k., and prices are much higher than at Uncle Nick's.
