Vietnamese in Wheaton

What's a good place for a leisurely, weeknight Vietnamese dinner in Wheaton? I usually go to Saigonese, but wondered if there are other places I should try.

BTW, when I searched the board and got a list of related topics, I couldn't find a way to put them in chronological order. I think I used to be able to do that. Did that option go away?

  1. Is Saigonese any good? Which dishes do you like? We had been thinking about checking this place out. Since Thanh-Thanh closed we haven't had any Vietnamese in the area.

fyi, the owners of Thanh Thanh opened Pho Vn One in Beltsville. As the name implies, it is a pho-only operation.

I haven't been to Saigonese for several months. I remember it as pretty good, although not exceptional. Last time I think we had the shaky beef (called Saigonese steak there) and the grilled shrimp with vermicelli. I remember the beef as very yummy, although they stopped using filet many years ago. But it's still pretty tender and flavorful. We started with cha gio and goi cuon, which I remember as being okay, but not great (the best cha gio I ever had was at Cha Gio in Falls Church). I'll probably be going to Saigonese this week, so I'll report back, although I'm not much of a connaisseur!
