Brewing beer, curing meat, or making cheese?

Vancouver- Jules Bistro

Very good write-ups in the Sun and the Courier last week about this new French Bistro in Gastown. Have any local hounds given it a try yet and what was the outcome?

We were there on Saturday, March 3 after trying unsuccessfully to get in the week before with no reservation. Lots of room for improvement with the service - even with our 7:00 reservation and a not very full room we had to wait for our table to be set. The waitress had never heard of Pernod or Ricards (even though I later noticed they had "Pastis" on the bar menu).

Food was excellent though, and the prices are fantastic. I had the 8 oz steak frites and chocolate fondant; my husband had the beet salad, beef tenderloin, and coffee creme brulee.

With one coffee and three glasses of wine (they forgot to charge us for one), bill before tip was $94. We will definitely go back, but might wait a while until the servers have more experience under their belts.
