Mirabelle Review

I went last night. The ambiance is really great. So warm and comfy. I really liked hanging out on the couches with drinks before dinner.

The food was good but not great. The starters and sides were much better than the mains - except for the frites, with the steak frites, which were really good.

here's what we had:

starters - we did the mix and match thing: trail mix olives (okay, but the roasted almonds had lost their crunch and I wasn't crazy about the dried apricots), mac and cheese (v.v. good - best dish of the night), potted shrimp (also v. v. good), yorkshire pudding with fois gras (not great - I think the yorkies were undercooked, there was no gravy, and the piece of fois gras was laughably small - they should have made the fois gras into a gravy like they do at Au Pied du Cochon in Montreal.

mains - steak frites (v. good frites, okay steak), bouillabaisse (not great - not enough flavour in the broth and I did not like the calamari, which they left in huge chunks so eating it was very difficult), and ling cod en papilotte (okay).

I would definitely go back, but just for drinks and grazing on the very good tapas-style starters and sides.
