Italian Bakery near midtown

I need to pick up some "Sfogliatelle" for a friend (a Brooklyn native) to bring back to Charlotte NC. Any suggestions?

Midtown Italian Bakery: Pozzo Pastry Shop ( www.pozzopastry.com ) located @690 Ninth Ave (47th-48th) Didn't see sfogliatelle listed or pictured but can contact them by phone or email to make sure. It's a small shop-very reasonable prices.

In the village area there is also:
Veniero's at 342 W. 11th (www.venierospastry.com). Pastry is pictured on their mail order website.

That's 342 _EAST_ 11 St. for Veniero's! It's not close to being in the Village (which means the "West Village"), but is in the East Village, which is not the same thing at all. Sorry to "nitpick" on that, but the East Village is really (or at least historically) part of the Lower East Side, with "The Village" being short for Greenwich Village. Anyway, the main point is that someone looking for 342 W. 11 St. would be very far away from Veniero's.

Sure, anywhere south of 14th St. is "downtown," as far as most of us are concerned.

You're talking about Taralucci e Vino?

I figure rjm is talking about Veniero's, but Tarallucci e Vino has very good desserts. I like their panini, as well.
