competitive eating tips/advice, please!

I am going to be in an ice cream eating contest in about two hours. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm aware that trying to eat a half gallon of dairy faster than everyone else is sort of a deathwish, but I'm in this to win it, so please don't reply only to warn, I am really in need of some tips!

  1. all I can think of is brain freeze...OUCH!! A trick I learned to stop it is press your tongue to the roof of your mouth.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

      1. Smoke some MJ and pretend you're a teenager again? Sorry...I'd wolf or gulp the spoons and avoid chewing/mashing it or contact w/ your teeth, avoid the cold.

BTW, as a teen I use to be able to eat a 1/2 gallon of Dreyers in a leisurely 20-30 minutes. Now...1/2 a pint is way too much.

I'm pretty sure this is the best advice I have gotten so far, and I'm really confused as to why I didn't think of it already!

        2. I wonder if wearing a hat would help, or a fleece gaitor with the brain freeze. Holding a couple of those charcoal warmers in your hands? When I've seen those shows, the winners don't seem to swallow with soft substances, just open their throats like doing shots.

          1. Ice cream is a tough one. "Crazy legs" Conti, one of the top champs, said: "ice cream is like climbing Mount Everest; equipment failure, frostbite and mental meltdown are all possible."

Two tricks often used by eaters, but I dont know if they work with ice cream. Dip the food in water to lubricate it. Cut the food into small pieces. You dont see champion eaters shoving a whole hot dog in their maws, they cut it up and dunk it in water.
