I would go to Cafe de Bruxelles (sp?) - wonderful mussels and fantastic frites.

I gotta go with the mussels at Les Halles on John Street. They've got them about 5 or 6 ways and the half order is huge and lots of tasty broth to be soaked up by the great bread they put out on the tables!

La Tour - UES
Jubliee - Midtown East
Pastis - Meatpacking

I love the mussels at Ditch Plains. They serve a heaping portion and a choice of four sauces.
Also, the mussels at Itzocan Cafe in the East Village are incredible! They are served with a tequilla, lime, jalapeno and cilantro broth that is outstanding!!

I like Le Petite Abeille. Plus you can't beat their Wednesday mussels deal. $16.95 all you can eat mussels with a Stella.

I second ditch plains. They serve bread from Sullivan Street Bakery to dip in the white wine sauce, fabulous!
Also, Bartabac in Brooklyn has a really great portion served with GREAT fries with a heaping side of ketchup and mayo. And the mussels at Five Points were fairly good (nothing compared to the pork though...)

i just had some at the Landmarc in TWC. big cast iron pot and a huge basket of fries could have definitely fed two for $22. choice of sauce is a plus. i went with traditional white wine and shallot. not worth a trip but if in the area definitely give it a try

I nominate Resto

forget it, Jubilee puts them away, even tho they
are French, not Belgium..
But the burgers are the best in NYC. And the frites cups are great.

I found this most unlikely, but Wheelers in Sheepshead Bay has some very tasty mussels. Very flavorful red sauce, good portions, well made. Their wings are up there as well.

I haven't been but my friend (and I trust her) says Chez Oscar (or Oskar?) in Fort Greene is great. And Tuesdays are all-you-can-eat mussels night for like $10!
