Jackalope BBQ Fishkill, NY
Anyone know of this place? It used to be the Umami Cafe. I'd like to hear comments on the BBQ if anyone has eaten there?

Umami is fusion. Combining different ethnic or regional ingredients, styles, or techniques. It is basically Jonathan Pratt's version of different flavors from around the world. The beauty about restaunats and food is that there is usually something out there for everyone's different taste.

Wasn't mourning Umami...never thought they really got the asian/fusion thing right. But we found the BBQ sorely lacking...nothing texas about it...not as tasty as Holy Smoke...maybe this team should try to stick to one cuisine and learn to do it authentically... poor quality and lack of skill hidden under strong flavors is an old trick in any cuisine. Friends told us that the owners other restaurant, Peter Pratt's, an old family favorite, had gone down hill in the last couple of years as well.

Sorry to hear about that. There were some dishes that we really loved at Umami.
As for Peter Pratt's, we haven't been there since they got a new chef and changed the menu dramatically. The new stuff did not appeal to me like the old stuff did.

I also noticed it there (and we are still mourning the loss of the Fishkill Umami, with no waits and better food than Croton). It's the same ownership, there is a small blurb about it on the Peter Pratt website.
My wife was disappointed to see no pulled chicken sandwich on the menu as they have at Holy Smoke in Mahopac (they do have a grilled chicken sandwich).
