I finally tried Black Sheep in the little hotel by Kendall on Wed. since I had the day off. It's a small room that seats 3 at the bar and maybe 25 others, barely divided from the rest of the hotel's small lobby. I thought I'd seen a lunch menu that was very reasonably priced but there weren't any bargains here. I had it in my head that I was getting a sandwich of some sort so didn't pay lots of attention to other items, but there were some dishes in the $12-16 range and the soup specials sounded good. The man next to me had the grilled turkey & cheese on country white which looked great, los of meat and tons of cheese so that it spilled outside and the excess cheese got a nice frying like the cheeseburgers at Shady Glen in CT (which they're famous for). I got a grilled portobello on white instead of sour dough expecting the same spill over of cheese but no such luck. It was a tasty sandwich and had tons of mushrooms, but for $12.50 with either homemade chips or slaw, it was fairly pricey. I spent the extra $1 and got both sides, the cole slaw was excellent but served in a tiny dish (at least it wasn't plastic). Chips were good but not salty enough. Very busy at noon, nice if you want to spend that kind of $$ at lunch.

Ate at Audobon outside Kenmore Sq. for the first time in a while and had an excellent burger w/ asiago cheese (great cheese choices) ($8, $1 for cheese). For all of you who complain about places overcooking their burgers, it's the opposite problem here. They always undercook and I never get a medium burger. I'd already cut it in half tho so just bit the bullet and ate it rarer than I like. But it's great quality meat, good sized burger, ripe tomatoes, and the roast potatos are decent if not my favorite. I had the chili mayo they advertise w/ the veggie burger on the side but didn't notice any huge difference in flavor. Friend had pot stickers which he seemed to enjoy. Were I not saving money for a bunch of Rest. Week meals, I would have gone for the pork chop with fried green tomatoes and grits at about $16. Damn that sounds good. Place was jumping and very loud at 6:30.
