Anyone been to Spring Lately?

Have not heard any press lately on McClains flagship. any reviews?

    I visited Chicago a few months ago (so sorry if this is not recent enough and you were hoping for as recent as a visit within the last week) and dined at Chicago. I was thoroughly unimpressed. Though I read good things about it, and had hoped to be warmly welcomed, the first thing that came to mind was how cold it seemed. Next, I found the prices too high compared to what we actually got. I ordered the scallops. They were seared perfectly (not chewy). I don't remember what my co-diners ordered, but I recall being generally dissatisfied and thinking that the overall experience was not worth it.

      Wow. Not my experience at all. I find McClain's restaurants to all be very consistent. My fiance and I had drinks and dinner (2 courses each plus 2 sides) and it hit $100 on the nose.

        I don't know that Spring is considered his "flagship"; my impression is that all three (Spring, Green Zebra, and Custom House) are similar in level of accomplishment and prominence.

        It's been a few years, so I don't have the recent experience you're looking for...

          i had dinner at Spring with some friends a couple of weeks ago. it was friday evening. the place was almost full (was not that busy the last few times i was there). we went for the 5-course dinner for $60, plus the wine pairing (forgot how much that was). everyone loved every dish we got. that's quite impressive even for a top-notch restaurant like Spring. however, each course is so tiny portion even for a multi-course dinner. the appetizers were literally one bite, and the entrees were 2-3 bites. we kept hoping the next course would be bigger so we wouldn't leave the place hungry. but the portion of each course was "consistently" small. we ended up going to Roy's for more appetizers and desserts afterwards. again, the foods were great, but portions were just too small. i've been to many multi-course dinners at similarly ranked restaurants, and this is the smallest portions i've ever seen, and is my first time leaving hungry and going to another restaurant for more food. i looked over the next table and saw their entree sizes were adequate. so i will just do a la carte next time. also want to mention, the wine pairing was a little disappointing, and the waiter had very limited knowledge about wine.
          verdict: still one of my favourite restaurants in chicago, but i won't go for the 5-course dinner again.

            I know that this is not even what you asked but I was at Custom House and it was outstanding. I ate everything I shouldn’t have (Sweetbreads, braised beef short ribs, crème brulee)
            Everything was outstanding and service was quick and efficient.
            I also loved the cocktail menu very unique tasty offerings.

            Last time I was at Spring was over a year ago good food gruff service.
