article in NYT dining section praises Earthen Oven as "the best Indian uptown." Never tried it but I hope to soon...

Land Thai is really quite good (Amsterdam near 82nd street). All local Chinese food should probably be avoided. Tamarind (near Land) has OK Indian food, but not great. Sido has good mid-eastern food, but its not a great place to sit. And of course, if you think of Buffalo as an ethnic kind of place, Blondies (79th/Amsterdam/Broadway) has excellent wings!

one of my favorite places in all of the city is ouest. tom valenti is very talented. known for his shank( i think veal), there is a very basic salad with butter lettuce and a very tasy vinaigrette that i love. fresh fresh fresh.

I've heard good things about the new greek place Kefi (222 W 79th St -Cross Street: Between Amsterdam Ave and Broadway). I don't know if that's ethnic... THere's also Rain at 82nd which is good pan-asian, especially Vietnamese and Thai.
