Need a good drinks place

jazzlover Feb 22, 2007 06:35 AM

Looking for a full-service bar/grill type place that is OK with people who just want drinks and bar snacks. Would like some atmosphere, maybe a little "romantic". For cocktail hour on Saturday!

Yardhouse has good beer but not really romantic.
McCormicks & Schmicks may fall into that category but I don' think they have happy hour on Saturdays.
Ciudad in downtown would qualify also. Sit in the patio.

3rd stop, Village Idiot, Good beer places.

The Abbey in West Hollywood is romantic ish and has good drinks and food.

Vertical Wine Bistro, AOC, Lou are wine bars with food.

Have you considered a tapas place?

I agree with all your recs, with the exception of the Abbey. It may look romantic but it's a huge meat-market and the food is only so-so. Hottest gay bar in town, though!

agreed with hrhboo, on Saturdays (and most weeknights in general) Abbey is a giant meat market - but the other ones are good choices.

I'd also recommend Magnolia on Lake in Pasadena -- the fries trio & mac 'n cheese are delish (however, varies a bit as to whether it's "romantic") www.magnoliaonlake.com

A bit classier may be Red White + Bluezz (which would probably feature live jazz on Saturday), also in Pasadena, some creative fusion dishes-- www.redwhitebluezz.com

My new favorite place is the Villiage Idiot. Full bar, decent food, nice crowd and they even have a small lounge in the back that's pretty cozy. If it's nice weather, I always love the Belmont on La Cienega.

            The Edison in downtown.

Bar Celona, bar side (next to but separate from the restaurant/bar), old town, pasadena. GReat drinks, sleek space, and you can order off the menu too if you want.

well it's not a bar and grille, but if you like margaritas, Malo in silverlake is a nice spot

The Palomino in Westwood has a nice happy hour/appetizer special every day (incl. Saturday) from 4:00-7:00 and after 10:00. I love the dungeouness crab and artichoke dip, and the pomegranite martinis. The ambiance is nice and fairly romantic.

Aphrodisiac on Santa Monica and Beverly Glen (where Lunaria used to be) is also a nice spot for drinks.

I need to try this place, mostly because I got on the ride at California Adventure. Do they have/how's the food?

Um, are you responding to my post? Confused by what you wrote.

Tower Bar is a full-on restaurant with a sexy bar. Food's great. I'd be happy to go into more detail, but I'm not sure that your question was really for me.... Let me know if you want more info.

Malo------in Silverlake????? We recently had drinks and appetizers there and realized that the name---which translates to BAD is ironically right on target. Everything was MUY MALO!!!!

celedon has a big, big bar area - and they'll serve food to you anywhere in the bar. really nice, not too noisy, but enough people. i had 30 people at the bar last weekend for my birthday and they were very accommodating and sweet.
