BBQ or Steakhouse in Midtown/Theatre area

  • x
  • 4

Am looking for a place to eat before seeing Mamma Mia in Midwinter Theatre.
Ideally in the Theatre district/Midtown area so it's walkable.

I have heard of Virgils but not sure what they're like.

Any ideas?

Thanks

  1. Virgil's is a BBQ place...it's ok, not great and not a steak place.

Here are some steak places in the area:

    Ben Benson's
    Del Frisco's
    Gallaghers
    Palm
    Ted's Montana
    Ruth's Chris

    1. That's excellent, thank you!

      1. I like Virgil's. If you really have a taste for BBQ in midtown then that is place to sit down and have some. There sides are pretty good too. Also, a take out spot recently opened in midtown called Ressie Mae's which I would assume serves BBQ since it is a soul food spot. There is anther take out soul food place that may have ribs called Soul Fixin's located on 34th near Madison Square Garden.

        1. I'm not the biggest fan of Virgil's though it's not poor. I haven't been to Daisy May's, but a lot of Hounds say the bbq there is excellent. Used to be mainly take-out, but not long ago, they expanded into the adjoining space, and there's now seating. It's on 11th Av., near 46th St.

We haven't been to Ruth's Chris in ages, but we thought the steaks were tasty when we had dinner there. Haven't been to Del Frisco's, but it gets a "thumbs up" from many Hounds.

Keens would be my pick. Delicious food and unmatchable old NY ambiance. It's on the outskirts of the Theater District, on 36th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs. I, like many natives, consider that walking distance.

Btw, the name of the theater you're going to is the Wintergarden.

Enjoy the show and Bon Appetit!
