Special Birthday Dinner Coming Up - But Where?

Hello Everyone,
My wife turns 55 in about a month and I would like to take her out for a special dinner. She loves seafood but will also eat a steak or chicken if she is in the mood. Last year we went to Scaramouche for her birthday which was great. This year I am looking for a place with more pizazz. Any suggestions are very welcome.

    1. For me, Susur is the ultimate in Toronto dining.

That said, the the food can be "challenging," and some may find it too baroque.

I think there's actually a renaissance of baroque food in Toronto!

      2. My last visit to Perigee (around Christmas) left me unsatisfied - I think they had a bit more heart going into the food when they first opened.

Starfish is amazing for fish, but more upscale casual than fine dining. Colborne Lane (Claudio Aprile's new resto) certainly would provide an exciting food experience. And even though it's not brand new, Blowfish is still quite amazing for a sushi-and-more meal.

Thanks, pescatarian! I'm looking forward to my birthday dinner tonight. I'll definitely report tomorrow.

          2. I am anxious to hear how you liked Colborne Lane. Hopefully tomorrow we will also hear from FlavoursGal.

            1. Just went to a place called opal jazz lounge (their website by the same name) on queen west of spadina. Very pricey, but special as they have a live jazz band that performs. I think the best thing on their menu is their seafood dish (~$42)...lobster tail & prawns. My friend had that and shared a piece with me. Steak is large...other friend had that. I had salmon steak...it was ok. Good service. They have a quiet policy while the band is playing, but you can talk softly, which actually makes for a more peaceful dining experience overall. Small place, good service, nice decor. Definitely special occassion only or deep pockets, but good for couple...very pricey. There is also an entertainment charge of $12/person.
