Gallagher's Steakhouse Tampa

I know it is a branch of the NYC institution. Has anyone been and how does it compare to the other higher end "chain" steakhouse?

I caught a matinee at Channelside today and tried to stop by Gallagher's but as of 5:10pm they had yet to open. It is located in the space that Signature Grille once occupied, so it makes me wonder if they are fixing to fail. [insert Eater Deathwatch graphic] As others have said, with Bern's in town, I don't even consider going anywhere else for steak.

I ended up going over to Pelagia instead.

Well, not a huge fan of Bern's here (other than the dessert room.) Sorry, everyone. I've always found them a bit overrated and just getting by on the Bern's name as of late. I much prefer the steaks at Charley's (not to be confused with Charlie's Wine Cellar in Hyde Park.) I'm not expecting a whole lot from Gallagher's, but I do like to try new places and new things. Boizao is on the menu tomorrow night...Now if only I could get that Gordon Ramsay reservation in London next month!

We went to Gallaghers last week, and I must say it was quite the place. Besides outstanding food and service, the VIEW was the best in Tampa . I found the restaurant to be very high quality . The Sirloin I ordered was outstanding. There isn't another high end steak house in Tampa that can compete with the ambiance. I will be going there again very soon. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did . Bon Apetite'

I guess we should all run, not walk to Channelside to get one of those great sirloins, right?

You were so impressed that you decided to sign up for Chowhound just so you could post about a new chain steakhouse? Is it a coincidence that your first post on this board reads like a commercial? I could be wrong, but just sayin....

Kevin-you bring up a good point. I had a reservation there last weekend and we had a change of plans. For some reason Open Table wouldn't allow me to cancel the reservation. I called the restaurant directly and the girl who answered seemed quite disappointed I was canceling. It seemed a bit odd for a Friday night. She asked, "Ooooh is there any reason why?" Then went on to ask me if I'd like to go ahead and reschedule. It was just a sense of urgency or desperation in her voice that made us wonder why she'd be -almost upset-on a Friday night that a customer canceled. Maybe I'm reading way too much into it, but I figured they'd do what every other busy place does and thank me for calling and letting them know-then fill the spot within seconds!

That written, it hasn't made me want to go try it, but we will sooner or later.

Hmm, wasn't there a Tampa steakhouse in Tampa that had a pretty good reputation as far as high end steakhouses go? Oh yes, Bern's! Generally regarded as one of the highest quality steakhouses in the nation, and a place with a pretty good CH rep. Gallagher's is a tasty chain, granted, but it is not, and never will be, on par with Bern's.

They are starting to take reservations after March 1st. I made a reservation for March 2nd. I'll come back and report! They are now on Open Table too. :)

I missed it on Open Table. They must've been booked the night I was looking.

That's near/in downtown Tampa and the Florida Aquarium. I think they just opened this month. It seems hard to get their number from their website, the reservations link doesn't work. I think it's 813-229-8000. Haven't been there, but thanks for the new place to try!

615 Channelside Drive. Not sure where that is as I live in Orlando, but I frequent Tampa a lot to dine.

I found it on opentable and also on their NYC website. I personally have never eaten at one but looking on the NYC Board it does have its passionate followers.
