Which Washington area Deli or Grocery has the best shrimp salad?
I seem to remember a satisfactory one at the salad bar of the Giant on Duke Street (near Quaker Lane) - a store as big as a football field with practically no vegetables. That may be a "sometime" thing, and it may not be now.
The old "Someplace Special" Giant in Maclean had a really nice shrimp salad, but of course they're gone.
Well, it seems to be a dead issue looking at the feedback. So my plan is to head out to sample a store, Wegman's, Giant, Super Fresh, Safeway, Whole Pay Check, Trader Joes, Dean DeLuca, Eastern Market, etc and find out. If you have a deli or maybe korean or asian market of note let me know. Im too lazy to make my own.
I really enjoy shrimp salad, but I'm having a hard time even imagining an extraordinary shrimp salad. That being said, Balducci's does a satisfactory version of a classic shrimp salad.
Wagshal's on Mass Ave in Spring Valley does a pretty tasty shrimp salad. Huge shrimp, celery, red onion, etc. It's certainly not cheap, but it's good. Also, their deli meats and sandwiches are excellent.
harris teeter has a very good prepared shrimp salad -- but it also has surimi, i recall. but it is very shrimpy, with lots of shrimp -- and no funny tasting dressing like giant's. tastes fresh. it costs around $8/#.
i like it on a croissant.....mmm, it's lunchtime!
The Chesapeak Shrimp Salad at the Whole Foods on P St in incredible! It's so full of flavor and perfect in the summer time (although they do offer it all year round). You can find it at the prepared food counter. It's not always there but you can ask them when they plan on having it next. SO delicious!!!
