Your "Art Buchwald" food

A recent post on the Food Media board linked to an article by the late Art Buchwald. In it he mentioned that he regretted not having eaten more eclairs. The gist of the article was that there are things you give up that, in the long run, you might regret not having done.

If I were to depart this mortal plane tomorrow, I'd be so cranky because I missed out on a whole lot of cinnamon rolls. Sounds silly, I know, but I will let myself eat chocolate and foie gras but I draw the line at cinnamon rolls even though I love them. They have no redeeming nutritional value. I hope someone will remind me on my next birthday to spend the day eating cinnamon rolls. One of my mothers-in-law once did this with cream horns and she's a much happier person for it.

What's the one food you would regret not having eaten, once you know your days are numbered?

  1. Lordy, don't hang me in Chicago for my hitherto undiscovered sins. I want my last meal to be foie gras, and last week they banned it there!

Apparently it is still being served "at no cost" as a side dish or special offering accompaniment, legal loophole. So they can give it to you but not sell it to you. At least we didn't ban trans fats.

    2. Beef. I gave up most red meat a number of years ago, even though I really love it.
I need to allow myself a really good steak more often.

      1. Fudge. I can't even remember the last time I had a good piece of fudge. And yet, God, I love it so much. Especially rocky road. Or peanut butter . . .

        1. Doughnuts. Talk about no redeeming nutritional value. I used to eat them quite a bit as a kid, but I rarely do now...despite the fact that my office turns into The World of Doughnuts most Friday mornings. If I do eat them now, my rule is they have to be Krispy Kreme because they're sooooo good. It's been probably a year since I've eaten a doughnut...a string sure to be broken now because of the craving you brought on with your evil post! ;-)
