What about BBQ in Fayetteville N.C.?

Was in Fayetteville NC this past weekend. Saw lots of BBQ places. Since Fayetteville is so close to Dunn, Goldsboro, Ayden and other Eastern NC hot spots, are there no good Eastern NC bbq places in Fayetteville? Or between the SC state line and Fayetteville, along the I95 corridor?

    1. Oh all you Eastern NC BBQ chowhounds, am I to assume (to your knowledge) that there is no acceptable ENCBBQ in Fayetteville NC? So near, yet so far........

        1. A few weeks ago, somebody from south of NC posted about wanting to try NC BBQ, and mentioned they'd be heading up I-95 towards Fayetteville, so I pulled out the Garner & Early books and looked, and there really wasn't much to speak of in either book along I-95 between SC and Fayetteville. I rarely find myself down that way, so I can't speak from personal experience, but the lack of anything solid in the books doesn't bode well . . .

            1. Ross, you came through!!!
That was most likely me (as if). I have noticed several 'q joints in Fayetteville but saw no chimneys or pits. I feel that your assumption that Fayetteville may not have outstanding 'q could be correct. As I will be traveling to Fayetteville periodically, I feel I must explore on my own. I may have to leave a day early to establish a baseline at Dunn or Goldsboro. Thanks for the reply; I value your opinion as it is obvious that you are deep in the E. NC 'Q. BTW, ever notice that most SC 'Q places are only open Thurs. Friday and Sat.?

                1. We have a good friend in Fayetteville who is fully up on the local chow scene. It's not a good barbecue town. If there's a branch of Smithfield's Chicken n Barbecue in town, that would be your best bet. For a chain, it's good. (get a combo plate)

                    1. Thanks Bob W.

I am always game and will give it a try.
