Brought friends from New York to dinner here on Sunday. They were flabbergasted: thought the 35.00 prix fixe menu was unbeatable in terms of price and quality compared to anything they had in Manhattan (now there's a change from the usual Boston-bashing!). One of our group went with the regular menu and loved the fried sage leaves and his venison with celery root. Two of us had the arugala salad for starters, the pappardelle with lamb as the primi, and the veal cheeks with polenta as the main. Each of the three courses was equally good which I find rare: our only complaint was too much food! One of us had the black pasta with cockles and the cornish hen mattone and loved both. We shared the two generous deserts that came with the prix fixe menu: truffle tart and it was very good. Service was lovely, the downstairs room where we ate was pleasant and comfortable and we could hear each other! wine list is a bit pricey but we had a fine dolcetta for 32.00 a bottle which is not over the moon.
