Quiet Cafe for Reading

Can anyone recommend a cozy quiet cafe that:

serves an amazing latte, pastries, etc.,

does not play obtrusive music,

does not invite endless insipid conversation,

hosts a good contingency of quiet workers,

and is the lower east side, east village, tribeca, or thereabouts?

much thanks

  1. modo off of perry street in west village may do it. it fits most of your criteria and is on the end of a cute block. that is if west village is ok.

      2. Housing Works Cafe, Perry St. just south of Houston.

Housing Works is on Crosby St., just south of Houston. I wouldn't quite call it "cozy" but it's a very nice place and pretty mellow for reading.

Seconded. It's not traditional-cozy, but surprisingly welcoming in a sort of warehouse-converted-to-a-bookstore way. It is definitely quiet, and I've been able to get a lot of work done there.
