Need help for birthday dinner recommendations!
I am looking for a wonderful place to take my husband for his birthday dinner next week. We are both big foodies but not big on loud, trendy restaurants. Went to the new Tasting room recently and loved it but wanted to try something new in that vain. Fun with a great tasting menu and wine list, great atmosphere but preferably won't break the bank. Does such a place exist? We live on the lower east side but any recommendations would be SO helpful.Thanks.
I also love Fleur De Sel (actually I tried it out based on RGR's recommendation on this board=D) but with about the same price range for tasting menu I will probably choose Eleven Madison Park. I like their food better plus they include amuse bouche and the service is exceptional. Fleur De Sel, while with excellent food, sometimes (not frequent, but occasionally) have some hiccups in service due the the limited space. EMP which is under Danny Meyer's definitely excels in service.
Keeping in mind that people's idea of what "breaking the bank" means, we've enjoyed several excellent tasting dinners at Fleur de Sel. Delicious modern French cuisine. Excellent wine list. Professional service. Small space with attractive contemporary decor and low-key ambiance.
I took my fiance to Anissa (in the West Village) 2 years ago for his birthday mainly because I was looking for something with an intimate atmosphere, a tasting menu, good wine selection and not too expensive. It was excellent, but I haven't been back since so I'm not sure how helpful this is. I believe with a delicious and affordable bottle of wine as well as dessert wine pairings and 5 courses it was less than $200.
Blue Hill was on my short list to take him this year, but for some unknown reason we ended up in the bar room at Public... and with the exception of the food and level of service it was the absolute opposite of Anissa.
