Ok, this isn't the chowiest of recs, but it's a really fun and romantic Sat nite out in the burbs.. Tony Pilla's Italian Eatery in Woburn(attached to the Holiday Inn next to Showcase Cinemas). They have a great jazz band on Sat nites starting at 9pm and really pretty good Italian food. It looks like a chain but is the only one. Nice comfortable atmosphere, booths and tables and a bar, friendly staff willing to answer questions about the food, nice lighting.
We have been twice, and liked our food both times. It's not gourmet, but fresh ingredients, homemade pasta, nice flavors and huge portions. Prices about 8-18$. The Napoli pizza was very thin, more like an openface quesadilla, with marinated tomatoes, good cheese, olives and roasted red peppers and carmellized onions. Pasta Tony was a rich cream sauce with carm. onions, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and pasta primavera had lots of fresh veggies. Eggplant sub was humungous and loaded with cheese. Eggplant was a bit thick and seedy but very tasty. I think its not fried so not greasy. Decent food gets even better with good music and the band was great. They did really nice smooth jazz and then added a female vocalist who did everything from Nora Jones to Etta James to Reba McIntyre. They even got the manager to play middle eastern drum and they did some music that makes you want to start belly dancing. Excellent sax player. I don't eat meat but the pizza nachos sounded fun.. Cheese, meat and sauce on tortilla chips. Their version of shrimp cocktail is jumbo garlic shrimp on garlic bread. Seems like decent menu variety. They seem to be pretty crowded before 9pm, but quieted down after that. The band and staff were so nice that I would love to see them get a bigger crowd for the music. They have Elvis and oldies impersonators midweek but I havent seen it.
