Cheese Festival in Spain

laalbahaca Feb 16, 2007 01:44 PM

I have always wanted to go to a cheese festival in Spain. I will be there this spring for several months and am in the search and discover phase. I have found some info, but I know I read about an Idiazabal festival but I can't remeber the details. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try the national cheese festival in Trujillo near Seville. Idiazabal is just one of the many types of Spanish cheeses they will have there. It takes place on the early May bank holiday weekend each year.

I think that most of these local festivals will be in the late summer or fall, since that is more in line with the cheesemaking season... I know there is an Idiazabal cheese contest in Plentzia and a Cabrales contest in Arena de Cabrales (Asturias), but both are in August.
