My wife and I are going to Santa Barbara for her 40th birthday. I am looking for some suggestions on restaurants that would be considered to be the best in the area.. We are staying at San Ysidro Ranch and will be having dinner at Stonehouse one night Any other suggestions?

I love Cold SpringTavern but I have not been there in years.
    Check out the website:

I was there 10 years ago and I had the medallions of rabbit--it was wonderful! I see it is still on the menu.

I haven't been there in years, either, but remember that it was a really special experience due to the location and ambiance. The food was good, too.

You'll probably hear a lot here about Downey's, Olio e Limone, Sage and Onion, Bouchon, Epiphany, etc. There are a lot of threads about Santa Barbara dining, and I think the best bet is to look through some of those for ideas.

The thing is, "best" means different things to different people. Are you looking for a certain kind of experience, wanting to spend a certain amount of money, etc.? Or are you looking for good food? One does not automatically come with the other.

Oops, I meant to reply to DCFoodie. . .
