Roadside Diners/Burger Joints/Hot Dog Stands Along Merritt Parkway?
Any suggestions for good lunch spots just off the Merritt Parkway between, say, Bridgeport and the New York border? Thanks!

We ended up going to the Silvermine Tavern on the way down and the Merritt Canteen on the way back.
The Silvermine Tavern was such a nice spot. Very cozy and romantic for sure! We had lunch there. The food was very good overall, but it was the atmosphere that stole the show. It reminded me a bit of the Salem Cross Inn, or perhaps the Old Mill or Barker Tavern. I definitely want to go back there, maybe to stay overnight.
The Merritt Canteen was excellent, too, but in a completely different way, of course. My burger was so-so, but the chili cheese dog was terrific (and very hot!). I can't imagine how hot the "brutal dog" must be. It was a long ride home, so I decided against it!
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I definitely appreciate it.

I'm a New Jersey hot dog fanatic. We have great hot dogs here, but so does Connecticut. I've been there a few times to sample hot dogs. I've been to over a dozen places and Merritt Canteen is one of the best. They deep fry a Hummel brand hot dog and then finish it off on a griddle. They also have the spiciest chili I've ever eaten. A little too spicy for me, but many like it. I don't know if it's near the Merrit Parkway, but the Glenwood in Hamden serves a great hot dog. A long 5 to a lb Hummels dog that is charbroiled.

Has anyone tried the Silvermine Tavern in Norwalk for lunch? I was just looking at that on the Internet. Looks nice!

People really like the Lakeside Diner on Long Ridge (Exit 34) in Stamford . Northbound make a left off the exit; southbound its a quck right and immediate left. It literally overlooks the Merritt.
Pizza - Leitizia's in Norwalk. Exit 39 Main Street North (not sure if 39A or 39B but you want to go north on Main St.) About 1 mile up just past Walmart. It's hard to see but one of the best pizzas in CT.
