I'd like to make the trek out there and check this place out since seeing it on kirks blog. Has anyone else ate there? Any comments?
This place is just down the hill from our house and we have been meaning to try it. My mother in law ate there once by herself while staying at our house and said it was great. It's sign only says "Mexico City Cuisine" - I didn't even know it had another name. Let us know how you like it!
I once did a longer post about this place, and just spent a half hour looking for it, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, "Rana" is Spanish for Frog and this little *very* informal place has all sorts of frog pictures, trinkets and frog-themed kitsch throughout. The have a lot of the familiar stuff, but they specialize in guisado plates. The young guy who runs the place is very friendly and will be happy to give you a taste of the various stews that they have that day.
Casa de Oro is opposite the direction that we ususally go, but we've made the jaunt over there about four times, and everything was always delicious, and we always brought a box home. Sorry I can't be more descriptive, but it's been a while and my memory needs an upgrade.
The name of the place (Ranas.com) has always struck me as muy Mexicano, since they don't actually have a website.
If it's not too far out of the way, and you're in the mood for a a really good, casual Mexican meal, you'll be happy you gave Ranas.com a try.
