Awesome Dumplings on 23st.?

Does anyone know the name of the place that serves dumpling rigth across the street from the food institute?

Look-the duck dumplings are interesting and the chocolate mochi are unique but for pork-n-chive with no jive you've got to go to Eldridge street that's all.

We visited Rickshaw when it first opened.

I was excited to try the duck dumpling. Needless to say this was the only time I've had flavorless duck. Some of the dumplings were also cold and had to be brought back.

We always say we'll give it another shot and never seem to get around to it.

Maybe now so we can see if our first impression was correct.

"It's been there for three years and it's still crowded at lunchtime."

I agree that it's not going anywhere anytime soon (neither is the Outback across the street nor the Olive Garden around the corner.) But the quality is very, very average. Whatever else you can say about them, they're not worth a detour let alone a special trip. If I worked nearby I'd probably eat them once in a while, but after trying them a couple of times in their first year, I've never bothered again either.

well-said, mikeg, especially with regard to equating it with olive garden and outback. perhaps i was wrong and it will stick around.

Been twice, that's enough. Over rated, over priced, over fussy. IMHO

In my opinion, I thought the dumplings here were terrible. Bad taste and texture, aside from being way too expensive. I also tasted a noodle dish which basically tasted like something you'd get at a salad bar. Actually, the dumplings tasted like that as well. However, I think i's a cool concept . i just wish it was good. this place will not last very long.

It's been there for three years and it's still crowded at lunchtime. The only way it won't last is if it's poorly managed. And I don't think that's the case.

I've heard the back and forth about Rickshaw, and I, for one, don't think it's overrated. The reason is the dumpling wrappers they use--they're very thin. I make my own dumplings a lot using the frozen round wrappers you can buy in Chinatown, and Rickshaw is the only eatery that makes ones with similarly thin skins. Others are so think, all you taste is dough!

Rickshaw is really expensive, yes. But I like being able to taste the filling and not feeling weighed down by all that extra dough. I will admit, however, that the chocolate dessert dumplings aren't too good.
