Westside banh mi?

  • 6

I'm afraid I already know the answer to this question, but I am hoping that I am wrong... is there anywhere on the westside to get banh mi? If I read about banh mi one more time today, I will chew off my own hand out of crazed hunger...

  1. I've heard that Le Saigon on Santa Monica Blvd. near Westwood has banh mi. I can't attest to how good they are or how much they cost, but I think if you search these boards, you'll find some positive reviews about their rendition of banh mi. I make no promises though. I'm working off memory.

    1. Pho 99 on Wilshire makes a decent one.

Just keep in mind that the prices aren't as cheap as you would find in the San Gabriel Valley or Little Saigon. I think Pho 99 sells theirs for around $5 or something like that. The prices scared me (being the cheap food-obsessor that I am), so I can't attest to the quality.

We had the banh mi at Pho 99 - a very pale imitation what you get in Little Saigon (Top Baguette!!!!)

        2. If Silverlake can be considered "Westside" (compared to SGV), KP's Deli makes a really tasty Banh Mi. Really good quality meat and vegetables on a really big roll. It's a twice the price of Lee's Sandwiches, but it's twice as big. In SGV, I like Banh Mi Che Cali. But nothing compares to Nhu Lan Bakery in Saigon. Because it is Lunar New Year, I am dreaming of food from Vietnam.

          1. China Beach bistro in Venice is a Vietnamese restaurant that serves banh mi. It's not on the same par as those you would find in Westminster but it's there!
