Reservations [moved from Manhattan board]

How far in advance do above average restaurants take reservations?

I don't take reservations - too many people don't turn up, don'[t turn up on time, their numbers change etc. Neither do I seat incomplete parties for the same reasons, half the guests sit, the rest of the party arrive in dribs and drabs, the server is run for drinks and appetizers for the first part of the party, or they order nothing and sit there looking grumpy. The table can't be turned. Some order their meals then double tickets go in to the kitchen, the latecomers share what's on the table and dont want to order anything else. Hateful situation.

it varies from place to place, but most higher-end restaurants open their books for 30 days in advance.
