Osha Thai at Embarcadero - Am I Missing Something?

  • 8

For the longest time I wanted to try Osha Thai at the Embarcadero. My wife and I ate lunch there today. After being seated, we started with an order of the wasabi beef rolls and a Thai iced tea. I was very disappointed with the beef rolls. The steak was tasty but I could hardly taste the wasabi and the vinagery flavor of the sauce permeated everything. The vegetables were crispy, though, but nothing special. The Thai iced tea was way too bitter for me. I kept stirring it hoping that the bitterness would be masked by the sweet flavor but to no avail. Finally, we shared basil chicken. The chicken had a gamey taste. Like the wasabi beef rolls, the sauce was filled with vinegar. I could hardly taste the basil in the chicken. The only thing that tasted good was the red pepper. A lot of people rave about this place so I was wondering did I come on a bad day or am I missing something?

  1. I've only been to this location twice, both times for dinner. On neither occasion did it live up to its Valencia Street counterpart.

    1. I had lunch there today also and it was horrible. Angel wings, spicy string beans, spicy catfish, thai ice tea. HORRIBLE! Everything was obscenely over salted. Will never go back to this location.

      1. Do you mean the one on 2nd Street? I've been only once, but I won't be going back, either.

No, I think rightstar meant the one in the Embarcadero Center and I meant the one in the Mission on Valencia. Besides those two, there is the 2nd Street location and one on Geary as well.

Thanks. Didn't know there was one in the EC. In fact, the only other one I've been to (a few times) is the one on Geary, which I find to be okay if I'm in that neighborhood, but not worth crossing town for. Better than the 2nd Street location, for sure.

The 2nd street location is loud and packed during lunch. The food is so-so compare to other Thai places. It's over hype by young yuppies.

        2. The Valencia Street location is beautiful inside, always jam-packed, and serves great food. I've never had been served food of the same quality at the Tenderloin or Embarcadero locations.

We had amazing: 1) Snapper with napa cabbage, with red curry on one side and green on the other. Very fresh snapper and curries with a wonderful subtle flavor.
            2) Pumpkin curry 3) Pad Thai 4) Jasmine tea 5) Jasmine rice
