New Vietnamese @ Atlantic/Smith St??

engarcon Feb 14, 2007 05:29 AM

I glanced at what appears to be a Viet place on the northside of Atlantic across the Soul Spot. I search CH and cannot find anything on it....not expected to be back in that area for a week but wanted to do my recon in advance of going....thanks in advance..

Pho and Viet food fans: take a trip to Pho Mac in Staten Island.

You really got my hopes up there for a second! What I wouldn't do for some Pho in my neighborhood. Alas, you're just talking about Nicky's, about which there's been lots of chat on the board.

I think it's a sandwhich shop, been there for a while and has had a series of comments comparing it to Hanco's. It's actually a block down, Atlantic and Hoyt (there's a big ugly condo going up across from Soul Spot).

It's called Nicky's and is a spinoff of their original one in the Esat Village. It primarily serves banh mi.

It actually much closer to Smith than to Hoyt - it's a couple of doors down from the big condo/hotel development on the corner of Smith. And yes, it's a branch of Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches from the EV. I think it's been around for about 6 months now.

engarcon, you should definitely check out Nicky's! The bahn mi sandwiches are great.

Finally went to Nicky's outpost and was impressed. Strange though I got there at 12pm and they were not open yet. The delivery guy let us in and we waited until the rest of the staff arrived. When they did arrive, it was apparent that the food is fresh, trays of various cooked meats were brought in and boxes and boxes of Baguettes. Once they finished they cranked out excellent sandwiches...I think I had the traditional sandwich (ground pork) with 2 summer rolls.....excellent taste and excellent value.

BTW - I spoke to the very sexy counter girl and she stated that they are considering bringing Pho Soup.......so standby!
