Have you had Roagna wines from Italy?

Den Feb 13, 2007 02:25 PM

I've recently been trying some wines from Roagna in Piemonte and was wondering if anyone else has? I've tried the 1997 and 98 Barolo and 1996, 97 and 98 Paje Barberesco and thought they were all good.

It is funny that you posted this since I just got off the phone ordering a bottle from a wine store.I recently had a bottle of their 1996 Rocca e Pira Barolo at dinner at Babbo in Manhattan. It was terrific and a great value. My wife loved it so much that she had them write it down so we could order it. Highly recommended.By the way, they produced them in half bottles that year as well.

I'm curious what Babbo hit you up for the bottle?

I know it was less than $90.00. It may have been $89.00.

That's a bargain. The importer's cost is about $45/bottle before markup to the restaurant.

I wonder if we are talking about the same thing since Italian Wine Merchants has it listed for sale, the exact 1996 bottle I mentioned in my OP, at $44.95. Vino in Manhattan also sells their half bottles, also 1996, for $25.00.(although they are sold out of Roagna at this time). I don't know how up to date the other site is but it is usually pretty accurate.

IWM could just be blowing it out.

It is okay with me if they want to do that, we benefit. How did you like their Barbaresco?
