I also like the bar, but I was very underwhelmed by the restaurant. After hearing good things about the place I went for brunch and it was nothing more than a typical hotel coffee shop.

One day I had a nice server, the next time I had the worst server I've ever experienced here or abroad. At least they're accomplishing superlatives! The food is not worth the weird vibe from the staff. I do like the bar, though. Remember it's subterranean, so you get a little claustraphobic after awhile. They're very odd about refusing to serve some things offered in the bar area to the front dining room, specifically the cheese quesedilla, which is the only good thing in the house.

i just went for brunch this weekend. it was a very relaxing place, which is a nice change from the hectic brunch places i usually frequent. but the service was beyond horrendous, and the food was just 'eh'.

I went recently and didn't like it at all. Atmosphere was civilized and pleasant, but food was hotel restaurant food. Luckily, prices weren't too high.

I ended up at North Square last year when my gf and I played Zagat Roulette. Since my visit, well, we no longer play Zagat Roulette.

I think Lucia's is a perfect characterization of the food. It's the sort of unimaginative, textbook New American you'd chow on with a client at the Topeka Marriot.

In terms of decor, atmosphere, and overall vibe, North Square is inescapably early '90s. It has the look and feel of a generic date restaurant set from Seinfeld seasons 1-3. Spin Doctors was playing and the waiter donned khaki cargo pants to boot. Good service and wine, but a definite no go.

Vastly improved since it started. Like another restaurant. Quite good.

North Square is one of those great under the rader places. I was first taken there by a friend four or five years ago. I eat there a lot. The food never disappoints - solid, always perfectly prepared. They do particularly good things with seafood. It's not Babbo, but in the mid-price range it's hard to beat..
Another plus is that the staff is very accomodating. You can sit for hours and no one ever rushes you-which makes it a great place for business meals - in fact I had dinner there last week with a friend ffrom out of town and we sat for three hours, eating and talking.
