  1. Not exactly sure what you mean by "adventerous" but you can find a high energy vibe with excellent food at:

    Angelini Osteria
    7313 Beverly Blvd.
    Los Angeles, CA 90036

One other suggestion for a great setting would be Cliff's Edge. While the food is good it doesn't rise to the level of Angelini, but the patio is just a wonderful, magical place to have dinner.

3626 Sunset Blvd (Cross Street: Edgecliffe Drive)
      Los Angeles, CA 90026

    2. Have you been to Vitello's on Tujunga. The food's so so, but the vib is fantastic.

      1. Neil's Seafood and Pasta House in San Pedro. Authentic and worth the ride.

the owner, aniello, is a great human being.

        1. I really like Briganti in South Pasadena. The waiters are Italian, the wine list is Italian, the food is very good, they gave me what I wanted even though it was not on the menu. My new favortie Italian spot, and right in your locale!

          1. In fact, i am going there tonight with my valentine for a nice stuffed pepper and some clams--wtih split these and then, I dunno, some rigatoni with veal sauce, linguini vongole-red, or rotelli with eggplant, or shrimp fra diavolo. cant wait. ciao.

            1. I am surprised no one tipped you off to the Jonathan Gold Top-20 Italian Restaurants that just came out in the LA Weekly last week:

              1. I second both the Angelini and the Briganti recs, though Angelini is more culinarily daring, I think (and has the price and reservation difficulty to match).

I would start with Briganti and see if it's good enough. If you feel like more, upgrade to Angelini Osteria.
